Description
When passing through the small town of Macksville, mid north coast, New South Wales, Australia, it is hard to miss the beautiful old Star Hotel right on the Nambucca River. It can be viewed from many spots, especially from the other side (northern side) of the river. With its old colorful red roof, I could not resist processing this image in selective color. I may post this image in full color later.
Star Hotel
On the River banks of the mighty Nambucca River is where you will find the Historic Star Hotel. The original building still forms part of this terrific old Pub with its 14 ft ceilings and some original copper mould ceilings still in place.
The current renovations have added a fine bistro. Publican Peter has made the best use of the brilliant river views by opening a verandah restaurant on the first floor. Facing north, diners enjoy the sunsets and the sea breeze. The menus' feature fresh seafood and awesome T bones. During the renovations the old fireplace was unearthed so bring on winter. Throw in the friendly ghost and you have it, the Star Hotel.
Star Hotel, Macksville built 1885 by Hugh McNally. In 1900 a two storey (story) extension was made to the rear and in 1919 another two storey (story) extension was added to the east (Star Hotel). Prior to the hotel being built Joseph Hall took up a selection on the site in 1866 and operated a small store. In 1883 he opened a boarding house on the site.
