just beyond the town of jackson wyoming the national elk refuge begins and it flows rather seamlessly into grand teton national park which going north eventually brings you to yellowstone. the elk come onto the refuge when winter snow pushes them down out of the highlands, but bison are there throughout the year. here is a small group in a vast field that has grown bright orange in the autumn.
